Fast visual disk space scanner for Windows

SpaceSniffer is a free Windows utility that helps you see where your drive space has gone. Instead of presenting storage usage as a long list of folders, it turns a selected drive into a treemap made of colored blocks. Larger blocks represent larger files or folders, so bulky items are easy to spot at a glance.

Using it is fairly straightforward. Choose a hard drive or connected drive, then let SpaceSniffer scan and build the visual map. You can hover over blocks for more detail or double-click to move deeper into a folder. This makes it useful for everyday cleanup tasks, such as finding old downloads, oversized media folders, or areas of your system that have grown without you noticing.

One of its strongest features is real-time updating. If files are added, removed, or changed while you are viewing a scan, the display can reflect those changes. SpaceSniffer also includes filters, so you can narrow results using search-style rules, and its help section explains the syntax for users who are not familiar with it. For more control, you can adjust colors, animation effects, displayed information, and file type coloring. Scan results can also be exported as text, and files or folders can be tagged for easier filtering and exporting.

The main drawback is the interface. The animated block view is informative, but it can become crowded when a drive contains a lot of data. New users may need a little time to understand what they are seeing, especially when many small files are packed into the same view.

SpaceSniffer is best for Windows users who want a clear, visual way to investigate disk usage before deleting anything. It does not clean your drive automatically, but it gives you the information needed to make safer, more confident storage decisions.
