Viber brings calls chats and communities to Windows

Viber for Windows is a practical messaging app for people who want their chats, calls, and group conversations available on a desktop or laptop. It is designed to work across devices, so your contacts and chat history can stay connected between your phone, tablet, and PC.

At its core, Viber handles the essentials well. You can send text messages, share files, photos, and videos, record voice or video messages, and make voice and video calls. Calls and messages are free when the other person also uses Viber. If you want to reach someone who is not on the service, Viber Out is available as a paid option.

The Windows version keeps the interface straightforward. Chats appear in a side panel, while the selected conversation opens in the main area. A search bar helps you find older parts of discussions, which is useful if you use Viber for busy group chats or ongoing family conversations.

One of Viber’s strengths is its community feature. Communities can include unlimited members, support invite links, and allow admins to moderate posts, remove messages, and ban disruptive users. Phone numbers are hidden in these larger spaces, which helps protect privacy while still letting users start private chats from profiles.

Viber also includes fun extras, such as custom sticker and GIF creation, plus useful controls like editing or deleting sent messages. For more sensitive chats, disappearing messages let you set a time limit before content vanishes.

Security is solid for private one-to-one conversations, with end-to-end encryption enabled by default. However, community chats do not have the same encryption protection, so they are better suited for public or semi-public discussion than confidential information.

The main limitation is that you need a phone number and a mobile Viber account before using it on Windows. Still, for users already in the Viber ecosystem, the desktop app is a convenient, feature-rich companion for everyday messaging, calling, and large-group communication.
