Street Fighter V brings sharp fights to Windows
Street Fighter V for Windows is a modern-looking entry in Capcom’s long-running fighting series, built around fast one-on-one combat, precise inputs, and a familiar 2D fighting style presented with polished 3D visuals. At its best, it delivers exactly what fans expect: tight movement, responsive special moves, dramatic match pacing, and characters that feel distinct in both design and fighting rhythm.
The strongest part of the game is still the fighting itself. Matches feel focused and technical, with every attack, block, and counter carrying weight. Returning characters have been refreshed rather than simply repeated, with Ken standing out as a fighter who now feels more clearly separated from Ryu in style and presentation. Character animation, sound effects, and music also help each bout feel energetic, especially when a round reaches its final moments and the tempo rises.
Where Street Fighter V is less convincing is in its content structure. The story mode is thin, offering short character episodes rather than a fuller campaign. These episodes are presented through comic-style panels and brief one-round fights, and each can be completed very quickly. A broader story expansion was planned as free future content, but the initial package can feel light if you mainly play fighting games for solo narrative content.
Online play is central to the experience, with options to train against the AI and move into matches against other players. The idea is strong, and the matchmaking-focused design suits a competitive fighting game. However, server problems mean the online side is not always reliable. This is especially frustrating because some single-player rewards also depend on a server connection.
Street Fighter V is best for players who care most about refined combat, competitive play, and stylish presentation. It is less ideal for those wanting a complete single-player package from the start or anyone wary of server issues and DLC-dependent content updates. The core game is excellent, but the surrounding structure needs patience.
