Crafting is a major part of progress, especially when using items such as the 3D printer to create useful gear. Some advanced equipment requires specific components, which encourages exploration of caves, camps, and abandoned locations.

One of the most helpful features is the companion system. Kelvin can be given practical tasks, such as gathering materials or preparing a shelter area, which reduces some of the busywork. Virginia can also become an ally if treated carefully, offering support as you travel. Solo players benefit from this, while online cooperative play makes the survival loop more social and strategic.

Visually, Sons Of The Forest is one of its strongest assets, with detailed environments that make the island feel attractive and threatening at the same time. The horror elements are graphic and often disturbing, so it is not suitable for younger players or anyone uncomfortable with gore.

The main drawbacks are worth noting. There is no autosave, so manual saving at a resting area is important. Some routine survival actions can also feel repetitive over longer sessions.
