Split and rejoin large files with ease

HJSplit is a simple Windows utility built for one clear job: breaking large files into smaller pieces and putting them back together again. It is especially useful when a file is too large for a storage device, email attachment limit, private network transfer, or online sharing workflow.

The program keeps things very direct. Its main screen is built around a few basic actions: Split, Join, Compare, Checksum, About, and Exit. To split a file, you choose the source file, select where the parts should go, set the desired part size, and start the task. HJSplit then creates numbered pieces automatically. When joining, it can identify the first .001 file and use that sequence to rebuild the original file.

Performance is one of its strengths. The tool is designed to handle very large files, including files up to 100 GB, and it can process multi-gigabyte files in only a few minutes. A progress bar shows the status while work is being done, although it can sometimes remain visible after a task has finished.

HJSplit also includes a couple of helpful verification tools. Compare lets you check two files by size, which is useful when confirming that split parts match expectations. Checksum can generate a value for a file and copy it to the clipboard, helping reduce mistakes when files are shared or reassembled later.

The biggest drawback is the interface. It looks old and plain by modern Windows standards, and users expecting a polished design may find it dated. That said, the layout is uncluttered, so the age of the design does not get in the way of basic use.

HJSplit is best for users who regularly move backups, videos, archives, or large documents across drives, networks, or systems with size limits. It is not a compression tool, so it will not shrink files like an archive utility. Instead, it is a focused, lightweight, free file splitter and joiner for people who want a practical tool without extra complexity.
