Expansive racing across a vibrant Mexico
Forza Horizon 5 for Windows is an open-world arcade racing game built around freedom, variety, and car collecting. Instead of keeping you on closed circuits, it places you in a fictional version of Mexico filled with beaches, towns, jungle roads, city streets, farmland, ancient sites, and even volcanic areas. The result is a driving game that works well whether you want structured races or relaxed exploration.
The core loop is easy to understand. You drive, enter events, complete stunts, earn followers, and build your status at the Horizon Festival. Events range from road races and drift challenges to larger Showcase-style moments, such as racing unusual opponents across dramatic routes. Free-roam play is also a major part of the appeal, letting you move around the map at your own pace.
Car choice is one of the game’s biggest strengths. There are more than 500 vehicles, covering modern supercars, off-road machines, classics, and other licensed models. Customization is deep, with options for tuning performance, changing parts, adding body upgrades, adjusting paint, decals, rims, horns, and more. Recent updates have expanded this further with extra body kits, tire profile adjustments for selected cars, rally-focused options such as launch control, and support for larger garages, tunes, and liveries.
Visually, Forza Horizon 5 is a standout, helped by changing weather, shifting time of day, and seasonal effects. A sunny drive can give way to rain, fog, or a sandstorm, adding variety to both racing and sightseeing. On PC, the game also includes technical features such as DLSS 3.0 support and steering wheel rotation support.
There are a few practical drawbacks. The map can feel crowded with icons, especially early on, and the tuning menus may be intimidating for new players. It also has notable PC requirements, including at least 8 GB RAM, a GTX 970 or RX 470 class graphics card, and around 110 GB of storage.
Forza Horizon 5 is best for players who want a generous, visually rich racing sandbox with lots of cars and activities. If you prefer simple menus and minimal distractions, it may feel busy, but its flexibility makes it one of the most accessible big-budget racing games on Windows.
