Precise volume control for every Windows app

Precise volume control for every Windows app

EarTrumpet is a small Windows 10 utility built for one clear purpose: giving you better control over the sound coming from individual apps. Instead of changing your whole system volume at once, it lets you raise, lower, or mute apps separately, which is useful if music, browser audio, notifications, and other programs are all active at the same time.

The app works from the system tray and presents a familiar volume-style panel. When opened, it shows the apps currently producing audio, with recognizable app icons to help you find the right control quickly. From there, you can adjust each app’s volume independently. For example, you can keep music loud while turning down a chat or messaging app so alerts do not overpower what you are listening to.

EarTrumpet also includes audio output reassignment for apps. This means you can direct an app to a different sound device from a dropdown menu, such as moving audio from one output to another. This feature is especially useful for streaming apps, though it is not equally reliable everywhere. Some games and other programs may not respond as expected, and in certain cases you may need to relaunch the app before a new audio choice takes effect.

The interface is one of EarTrumpet’s strengths. It keeps the controls simple, avoids unnecessary settings, and feels close enough to Windows that most users should understand it immediately. However, it does not fully replace the default Windows volume control. It sits alongside it in the tray, and because it uses a similar icon, you may need to hover over the icons to identify the correct one.

EarTrumpet is best suited for Windows users who often manage several audio sources and want practical per-app volume control without digging through system settings. It is not a complete audio management suite, but for everyday volume balancing, it fills a gap in Windows in a simple and useful way.
