As a reader, Xodo covers the essentials well. It opens PDF files quickly, including complex documents, and gives you several ways to view them. You can switch between single-page and double-page layouts, use continuous scrolling, zoom in closely, search through text, jump between chapters or sections, rotate pages, add bookmarks, and use night mode for easier reading in low light.

Its editing strengths are mainly around markup and everyday document handling. You can highlight, underline, strike through text, draw freehand, and add shapes such as arrows and circles. Annotation appearance can also be adjusted with options for color, opacity, and size, which makes comments easier to organize visually. For forms, Xodo lets you type into fields, tick checkboxes, and add a signature by drawing one or uploading it, then saving it for later use.

The app also helps when working with multiple files. You can merge documents, manage files from a built-in dashboard, and copy, move, rename, or delete items. It can open DOC, DOCX, and PPT files as PDFs, and it supports cloud access through services such as Google Drive and Dropbox, with syncing when documents are saved. There is also a scan-to-PDF option for turning images into annotatable files.

Collaboration is another useful part of Xodo. Through Xodo Connect, a PDF can become a shared online workspace where invited users can add annotations in real time. Only the host needs an account, while others can join through an invitation link.

The main limitation is that Xodo can sometimes lag, so it may not always feel perfectly responsive. Still, for students, remote teams, office users, and anyone who regularly marks up or signs PDFs, it offers a strong mix of features at no cost.
