Team focused tactical battles at massive scale

Squad is a paid multiplayer tactical shooter for Windows built around coordination rather than lone-wolf action. Its main appeal is the scale: matches can reach 40 versus 40 players, with infantry, vehicles, fortifications, and command roles all working together across large maps inspired by real-world environments.

What makes Squad stand out is how much it expects players to talk, listen, and follow a plan. The built-in VoIP system is central to the experience, so you do not need a separate chat app to coordinate with your unit. Squad Leaders play an especially important role, using map tools to guide movement, place structures, organize routes, and keep the group focused on shared objectives.

Combat leans toward a more grounded style than a typical run-and-gun shooter. Players can use tanks, convoy trucks, mounted-gun vehicles, and defensive equipment such as machine guns, anti-tank weapons, cannons, turrets, missile systems, sandbags, razor wire, and HESCO barriers. Different factions, including forces such as the British Army, US Army, Russian Ground Forces, Irregular Militia, and Insurgents, bring their own equipment and battlefield flavor.

The Hired Guns update adds the Western Private Military Contractors faction, which favors mobility and firepower over heavier infantry-fighting vehicle support. It also introduces vehicles such as the CPV Armored Car, Loach Helicopter, and M1117 Armored Car, plus specialized units focused on air support, armored security, and fast objective capture. The improved After-Action Report is useful for reviewing team performance and identifying where tactics could improve.

Squad is not the easiest choice for casual players. It has demanding system requirements, and heavy firefights can bring frame drops or lag. Queue times can also be lengthy in some cases. Still, if you want a serious team-based FPS where communication, patience, and planning matter as much as aim, Squad offers a deep and immersive battlefield experience.
