A tense action horror remake for Windows

Resident Evil 3 brings Jill Valentine’s escape from Raccoon City to modern Windows PCs with a stronger focus on action, presentation, and cinematic pressure. It revisits the 1999 Resident Evil 3: Nemesis, using Capcom’s RE Engine to rebuild the outbreak with detailed characters, dramatic lighting, and a city that feels hostile from the first encounter.

The main campaign follows Jill as she tries to survive while Nemesis, a powerful bio-weapon, pursues her through the collapsing city. The story takes place shortly before the events of Resident Evil 2, so it works especially well for players already interested in the wider Resident Evil timeline. Even so, the central setup is easy to understand: escape, conserve resources, fight when needed, and stay alert.

Compared with more puzzle-heavy entries, this remake is more direct. Progression is fairly linear, with fewer extended detours and less backtracking. Combat is encouraged more often, and the game provides enough ammunition and supplies to let players face threats instead of avoiding every fight. Jill’s dodge move also gives encounters a sharper, more reactive feel, rewarding good timing when enemies close in.

Presentation is one of the strongest parts of the package. The environments, creature sounds, weapon effects, ambient music, and voice acting all help maintain tension. Jill’s performance is particularly memorable, giving the campaign a stronger emotional center.

The trade-off is length and depth. The campaign is relatively short, around 5 to 6 hours, and players looking for complex puzzles or broad exploration may find it limited. Nemesis is intimidating, but many of his appearances are scripted, which reduces the sense of unpredictability. The bundled Resident Evil Resistance mode adds one-versus-four online multiplayer, but it is not the main reason to choose this release.

Resident Evil 3 is best for players who want a polished, action-forward horror game with excellent atmosphere and accessible controls. It may disappoint those expecting a long survival-horror adventure, but as a compact, intense remake, it remains an engaging Windows experience.
