Ride the frontier with 4K PC support
Red Dead Redemption for Windows brings Rockstar San Diego’s western action-adventure to PC with a strong focus on story, exploration, and cinematic gunfights. Set in 1911, it follows John Marston, a former outlaw forced by government agents to hunt down members of his old gang in order to protect his family.
The game is played from a third-person perspective across an open-world version of the American frontier and Northern Mexico. You travel on horseback or on foot, taking on missions, meeting a varied cast of characters, and discovering dynamic events and hidden treasures along the way. Its world is designed to feel lived-in, with a slower, more deliberate pace that supports the atmosphere of a fading West.
Combat is built around traditional shooting, but the Dead Eye system gives it a distinctive feel. This mechanic lets you slow time and mark several enemies before firing, making gunfights more tactical and dramatic. Your actions also affect honor and fame, changing how some characters respond to Marston and giving choices more weight than simple mission completion.
The Windows version is notable because it includes both the original game and the Undead Nightmare single-player campaign. PC-focused features include support for native 4K resolution on compatible setups, up to 144Hz, 21:9 Ultrawide and Super Ultrawide displays, HDR10, 60fps support, and full keyboard and mouse controls.
Its main limitation is pacing. Long rides and quieter stretches may feel slow for players who prefer constant action, though they also help build the game’s sense of place. Overall, Red Dead Redemption is best suited to players who enjoy character-driven open worlds, western settings, and a mix of story, exploration, action, and moral choice.
