Prototype 2 is a violent open-world action game for Windows that puts you in the role of Sgt James Heller, a soldier driven by revenge after a viral disaster destroys his family. The story gives the action a clearer emotional hook than a simple power fantasy, with Heller’s anger and sharp dialogue helping him feel like more than just a superpowered avatar.

The game is set in New York Zero, a city divided by infection levels. Safer green zones, struggling yellow areas, and heavily contaminated red zones give the map a clear structure and help missions feel tied to the state of the world. As Heller, you can consume targets, take their appearance, and access memories, which supports both story progression and stealthier infiltration sections.

The main attraction is the power set. Movement across the city is fast and satisfying, with huge jumps, wall climbing, and airborne traversal making exploration enjoyable. Combat offers plenty of variety as new abilities become available, and tougher enemies encourage you to mix tactics rather than rely on one attack. Infiltrating military areas by assuming identities adds a welcome change of pace, though the game is still very much built around explosive, gruesome action.

Presentation is also a strong point. The city is busy and detailed enough to feel convincing, while helicopters, tanks, infected creatures, and destruction-heavy fights give the game a strong visual identity. The sound design leans into the horror and brutality, so this is best suited to mature players who are comfortable with graphic content.

Prototype 2 is not flawless. Some missions can feel repetitive, and a few boss encounters may be tougher than expected. Still, its improved story focus, broader powers, and lively sandbox make it a strong choice for players who want a dark, aggressive action game with plenty to do.
