A surreal RPG horror with emotional battles
OMORI for Windows is a psychological horror RPG that uses familiar role-playing ideas to tell a strange, emotional story. You play as OMORI, a withdrawn young boy moving through a world that can feel bright, dreamlike, and deeply unsettling at the same time. The game is built around themes such as friendship, guilt, memory, and emotional avoidance, so it is best approached as a story-driven experience rather than a simple adventure.
Its presentation is one of its strongest qualities. OMORI combines pixel art with hand-drawn illustrations, giving its environments and character moments a distinctive look. The contrast between colorful scenes and darker psychological elements helps create an atmosphere that feels memorable without relying only on obvious horror tricks.
The gameplay follows a traditional turn-based RPG structure, with a party of four characters exploring interconnected areas and taking part in battles. What makes the combat stand out is its emotion system. Characters and enemies can enter different emotional states, and these states affect their abilities and stats. This adds a tactical layer beyond simply attacking and healing, since you also need to think about mood, resources, and party balance.
Each playable character has their own role, abilities, and weapons. OMORI, for example, uses knives, while Aubrey relies on heavier blunt attacks. These differences make the party feel more defined and give battles a sense of variety.
OMORI does ask for patience. Early navigation can be unclear, and the story is intentionally difficult to fully understand at first. Players who prefer direct objectives and simple plots may find it frustrating. However, if you enjoy atmospheric RPGs, psychological storytelling, and combat systems with an unusual strategic twist, OMORI offers a thoughtful and unsettling journey that rewards careful attention.
