A Sicilian crime saga with cinematic grit
Mafia: The Old Country is a third-person action-adventure game for Windows that takes the Mafia series back to early 1900s Sicily. It follows Enzo Favara, a man trying to rise above hardship while becoming entangled with the Cosa Nostra. The focus is clearly on story, atmosphere, and period detail, making it best suited to players who enjoy cinematic crime dramas as much as action.
The game blends narrative-driven missions with violent encounters, stealth options, and period-authentic weapons. Close-range fights with blades sit alongside gunplay using handguns, rifles, and shotguns, while duels and stealth takedowns help keep the action from feeling too one-note. Its Sicilian setting is one of its strongest features, moving between countryside, alleyways, vineyards, ruins, crypts, and grand opera houses.
Travel also supports the historical setting, with horseback riding and early automobiles helping the world feel grounded in its era. Visual design, sound, and music are all used to reinforce the sense of place, giving the game a strong cinematic identity rather than a purely arcade-style feel.
There are some important trade-offs. This is a mature game with graphic violence, gore, and strong language, so it is not appropriate for younger players or anyone sensitive to harsh crime content. It also has high system requirements, so players with older or lower-end Windows PCs should check their hardware carefully to avoid breaking the immersion with poor performance.
The deluxe edition adds extra items through the Padrino Pack and Gatto Nero Pack, including weapons, outfits, vehicles, and accessories. Overall, Mafia: The Old Country is best for adult players who want a serious, atmospheric crime story with historical flavor and intense action.
