A free strategy horror RPG with deep character battles
Limbus Company for Windows is a story-heavy strategy game that mixes horror, character management, and turn-based battle planning. You play as the executive manager of the Limbus Company, forming a squad from 12 characters known as Sinners and sending them into the buried facilities tied to Lobotomy Corporation.
The strongest part of the game is its atmosphere and writing. Each Sinner has a distinct background, and progression gradually reveals more about who they are. Upgrading a character can unlock extra story scenes, while new Identities change how that Sinner behaves in battle and what abilities they can use. This gives the game a strong collection and customization element without making the characters feel interchangeable.
Combat is based around choosing and linking skill icons so your team can clash with enemies called Abnormalities. Winning battles earns Lunacies, which can be used for new Identities and EGO equipment. EGO adds another layer of personalization, letting you shape your team around different strengths. The system can feel unusual at first, but it suits players who enjoy experimenting with skill combinations rather than simply picking the strongest attack every turn.
The game also continues to expand through seasonal updates. Season 6 adds Canto VIII: The Surrendered Witnessing, Mirror Dungeon #6, EXP Luxcavation #8, Dispenser and Extraction refinements, and a higher Identity level cap for players who have cleared Chapter 7. Resource changes, including Egoshard carryover and conversion, also affect long-term progression. However, the Season 6 Battle Pass includes only four E.G.Os, which may feel limited to some players.
Limbus Company is best for players who want a dark narrative, layered character building, and strategic battles with ongoing content. Its main drawback is stability, as occasional crashes have been reported. Still, with bug fixes and support for custom translation mods, it remains a distinctive choice for fans of unsettling RPG strategy games.
