Freedom Fighters is a third-person action game for Windows that mixes shooting, light tactics, and a dramatic resistance story. You play as Chris Stone, an ordinary plumber pulled into a fight against occupying Soviet forces in New York City. The setup is simple to understand, but it gives the game a strong sense of purpose as you move from street battles to larger acts of rebellion.

The campaign is built around semi-linear missions. You can usually choose the order of objectives within an area, but all key tasks must be completed before the story moves forward. This gives each stage a bit of flexibility without making the game feel confusing or too open-ended.

Its standout feature is squad command. As Chris gains charisma by completing objectives, he can recruit more fighters, eventually leading as many as 12 allies. Commands are kept straightforward, such as sending squadmates to attack or take cover, and the AI is capable enough that you are not forced to micromanage every move. Enemy behavior is also convincing, helping firefights feel more dynamic.

Weapons are handled in a direct, accessible way. You carry a primary weapon and a secondary option, with limited ammunition, and can replace them with gear found during missions. The environments are detailed and give the occupied city a strong atmosphere, supported by an impressive soundtrack.

There are some limitations to consider. The single-player campaign is relatively short, and there is no online mode for players who want multiplayer competition. Also, changing resolution requires using a separate configuration tool rather than an in-game option, which feels less convenient.

Freedom Fighters is best for players who want focused third-person action with approachable squad tactics and a strong narrative hook. It is not the deepest tactical shooter, but its clear controls, smart companion system, and memorable setting make it easy to recommend to fans of story-driven action games.
