Horror school escape with smarter scares

Evil Nun: The Broken Mask for Windows is a rebuilt version of the school-based horror adventure Evil Nun: Horror in the School. It keeps the core idea simple: you are a child tricked into attending a religious summer camp, only to end up trapped inside a school watched by Sister Madeline, a hostile nun armed with a huge hammer.

The game is structured around escape, exploration, and puzzle solving. Instead of simply running from danger, you need to uncover new areas, solve mysteries, and progress through six chapters. Each chapter opens up more of the school and introduces fresh puzzles, giving the experience a clearer sense of progression than a one-note chase game.

The biggest change is presentation. This remake uses Unreal Engine 4, which allows for improved visuals and animation compared with the earlier version. The school feels more modern in its design, and the upgraded look helps the horror atmosphere land more effectively. Sister Madeline’s behavior has also been improved, making her a more persistent threat as she can search through more of the building.

That stronger technical base does come with a trade-off. Evil Nun: The Broken Mask asks more from your PC than the original and also requires more storage space. If you are using an older or low-powered Windows machine, this is worth considering before deciding whether it is the right game for you.

In terms of appeal, this is best suited to players who enjoy horror games built around tension, hiding, puzzle solving, and gradual discovery. The premise itself is familiar, and it does not reinvent the genre, but the redesigned scenarios, new puzzles, stronger visuals, and improved enemy AI make it a more polished and intimidating version of the original idea. For horror fans looking for a creepy escape challenge on Windows, it is a solid pick.
