Lead an elite WWII squad with real time tactics
Commandos: Origins for Windows is a premium World War II strategy game built around careful planning, stealth, and squad-based action. Instead of controlling a large army, you guide a small team of specialists led by Jack O’Hara, the Green Beret, alongside five other commandos with distinct skills.
The core experience is real-time tactics. Missions take place across varied war zones, including Arctic areas and African deserts, and each objective asks you to think before acting. You can avoid patrols, hide in shadows, climb walls, use vehicles, or choose a more direct combat approach when the situation demands it. The appeal comes from studying the map, combining character abilities, and finding a safe route through dangerous spaces.
Its interactive environments help missions feel flexible. There is usually more than one way to reach a goal, which makes experimentation part of the fun. Cooperative multiplayer is another strong feature, letting two players coordinate plans and tackle missions together. For longtime fans, the Deluxe Edition adds extras such as classic character skins and portraits, a digital calendar, an orchestral soundtrack, and a 3D-printable Green Beret bust.
The game is not ideal for everyone. Its tactical depth can be demanding for newcomers, especially players expecting fast, simple action. Some objectives and mechanics may start to feel familiar over time, and once missions are completed, replay value may be limited. It also includes mature content, with violence and references to alcohol and tobacco.
Commandos: Origins is best suited to patient strategy fans, World War II enthusiasts, and players who enjoy stealth-focused problem solving. It may not reinvent the genre, but it offers a focused tactical experience with distinctive characters, tense mission design, and meaningful co-op play.
