Bring Pokémon style adventures into Minecraft
Cobblemon is a free, open-source mod that adds Pokémon-inspired exploration, catching, and battling to Minecraft on Windows. It is built for Fabric and Forge, making it a flexible choice for players who already use modded Minecraft and want a creature-collecting layer that feels integrated rather than separate.
The main appeal is straightforward: wild Pokémon can appear in the Minecraft world, and players can catch them, battle them, and build a team while still interacting with familiar blocks, biomes, and survival systems. Cobblemon includes every Generation 1 Pokémon, along with their evolution variants, plus selected creatures from later generations. It is not a complete all-generation roster, so players looking for every Pokémon may find the selection unfinished.
Battles are one of the stronger parts of the mod. Cobblemon uses competitive mechanics based on the Pokémon Showdown engine and includes systems inspired by Pokémon Legends Arceus. Movement during battles is designed to feel less restrictive, which helps the feature sit more naturally inside Minecraft’s open world.
There is also a useful crafting and world-interaction side. Players can harvest Apricorns from colored trees, use Bone Meal on them, and, in newer versions, smelt Apricorns into dyes. The mod also supports biome-focused content, including compatibility with Terralith and Oh The Biomes You’ll Go, along with evolution stones and healers.
Customization is another major strength. Because Cobblemon is open source and supports data packs and resource packs, communities can create custom variants and fakemon. Pokémon also feature varied animations, models, and textures, with updates adding new variants such as Slugma, Magcargo, Nosepass, and Probopass.
The trade-off is polish. As a community-developed mod, Cobblemon can have bugs or uneven behavior, and it is not an officially licensed Pokémon or Minecraft product. Still, for players comfortable with modded Minecraft, it is an impressive and imaginative way to turn a blocky survival world into a creature-collecting adventure.
