A sharp voice acted high school visual novel

Class of ’09 is a Windows visual novel and simulation game built around dark comedy, player choices, and a strongly voiced cast. It follows Nicole, a cynical 16-year-old entering her final stretch of high school after a difficult family background and repeated school transfers. Rather than presenting a sentimental school story, the game leans into sarcasm, manipulation, and chaotic social encounters.

The basic structure will feel familiar to visual novel players. Scenes play out automatically, then stop when you need to choose what Nicole says or does next. These decisions shape the route you take, but the game is less about finding the “correct” answer and more about picking the most entertaining or outrageous option. There are four main routes and 15 endings, giving players a reason to revisit scenes despite the relatively short runtime.

Its biggest strength is the voice acting. Class of ’09 often feels closer to an audio drama than a traditional game, with dialogue carrying much of the experience. The writing is quick, abrasive, and intentionally provocative, so it will appeal most to players who enjoy edgy humor and unconventional character work.

The trade-off is visual quality. The artwork is fairly simple, and the backgrounds rely on blurred photographic-style imagery, which can make the presentation feel plain compared with the audio. Still, there are useful touches, including an ending tracker in the main menu, unlockable bonus lore and extra scenes after full completion, and real-time clothing changes for characters.

Class of ’09 is best for players who want a short, voice-led comedy visual novel with multiple endings and a deliberately messy high school setting. It is less ideal if you prefer a long, tightly plotted story, polished visuals, or a more traditional coming-of-age tone.
