bcWebCam is a focused Windows utility that uses a desktop or laptop webcam to read barcodes and QR codes. Instead of needing a dedicated handheld scanner, you point the code at your camera, let the program capture it, and the decoded information is placed into a text field in another application or browser.

The software is built around a large live video preview, which makes it easy to line up a product label, package code, or QR code in front of the camera. It is especially useful for simple cataloging tasks, checking product numbers, or entering barcode data into online shopping and marketplace search fields. bcWebCam can also work in the background, so you can keep your cursor in the field where you want the scanned code to appear.

Its feature set depends on the edition. The free version covers EAN barcodes and QR codes, which will be enough for many home and light office uses. The professional editions expand support to more linear barcode formats such as Code 128, Code 39, Code 93, Code 11, PostNet, GS1 DataBar, and others. A higher tier also adds 2D formats including Data Matrix, PDF417, and Aztec.

Usability is straightforward. A short three-step guide helps new users understand the basic process, and the interface keeps attention on the camera view rather than extra settings. That said, bcWebCam is not a full product lookup tool. It extracts the barcode value, but it does not automatically search popular websites for you, so you still need to choose where that information goes.

The biggest practical limitation is camera quality. A webcam must be able to focus clearly at close range, otherwise scanning may be unreliable.
