AppLocker is a simple Windows utility built for one clear purpose: stopping selected programs from opening. It is aimed at users who want practical control over a shared PC, whether that means reducing distractions, limiting a child’s access to certain apps, or keeping casual users away from specific software.

The program works through a basic lock list. Some common Windows applications are already included, such as Notepad, MS Paint, Internet Explorer, and Microsoft Office tools. To block one, you select it and save the change. There is also an option to unlock everything at once, which is useful when you want to restore normal access without changing each entry individually.

AppLocker also lets you add your own programs, as long as they are .EXE files. This makes it suitable for blocking browsers, games, office tools, or other standard desktop applications. The trade-off is that adding apps is more manual than it could be. You need to enter the correct executable name and file type yourself, and there is no built-in file browser, search tool, or drag-and-drop support to make the process easier.

For everyday use, the interface is straightforward and should not intimidate non-technical users. Once configured, it can block listed programs without needing constant attention. It is also compatible with modern and older Windows versions, including Windows 7, 8, 10, and 11, on both 32-bit and 64-bit systems.

Its biggest limitation is security. AppLocker does not protect its own settings, so anyone who can open the program may be able to unlock blocked apps. It is more effective when access to the utility itself is limited to an administrator account. It also cannot lock areas like Control Panel, since it focuses on .EXE files only.

Overall, AppLocker is best for simple app restriction rather than advanced system lockdown. If you need a free, easy way to block selected Windows programs, it does the job, provided you understand its manual setup and basic security limits.
